St. Louis Police Chief, Lt. Col. Michel Sack, recently updated the public on the school shooting at a St. Louis, MO High School.
At 9:10 AM Central, this morning police received a call about an active shooter at Central Visual and Performing Arts High School. Police arrived on the scene within a couple of minutes of the call. The officers then immediately entered the school as children were fleeing.
The officers spoke with some of those fleeing and were informed the shooter was armed with a long gun at which point they began to look for the shooter and clear the building at the same time. They heard gunfire and went to engage the shooter.
The officers exchanged fire with the shooter and the suspect was struck. The suspect was transported to a local hospital, and they have since been pronounced deceased, no officers were injured.
Sack informed the media that “eight individuals from the school were transported to local hospitals. One adult female has been pronounced [deceased] at a local hospital, I believe that was from gunfire. We have one teenage female remaining here at the scene, she has also been pronounced [deceased] as a result of a wound she received from gunfire.”
“The others who received a variety of injuries, from shrapnel injuries to gunshots, they are currently being treated. As their condition changes, we hope for the better, we will provide that information to you as the day goes on.”
Police and SWAT have both searched the building as well as a bomb-sniffing dog. The force investigation unit is handling the investigation of the shooting, they are currently in charge of the building. The children from the school were transported to Gateway School after the shooting and are available to reunited with their parents.
