Beto O’Rourke Will Run for Texas Governor Against Greg Abbott, Citing Power Outages, Pro-Life and Pro-Gun Policies

The former U.S. Rep (D-TX) and failed U.S. Senate candidate Beto O’Rourke is going for another try at winning a statewide race in Texas. While former President Trump has endorsed the current Republican Governor Greg Abbott for re-election, many Republicans are unhappy with Abbott’s job on border security and Covid-19.

Although Abbott has reluctantly signed some legislation put through in favor of Republicans, many feel he only does what’s “right” when under pressure. Additionally, O’Rourke put out a candidacy announcement video citing Abbott’s “failure” with regard to power outages in Texas during winter storms.

O’Rourke also railed against pro-life laws and pro-second amendment legislation recently passed in Texas. He is banking on fast Demographic changes in addition to a low Republican turnout coupled with Republicans unhappy with Abbott for one reason or another.

Abbott probably does have the upper hand in this race despite facing primary challengers and O’Rourke, but only time will tell. O’Rourke tweeted out his announcement video:

“I’m running for governor. Together, we can push past the small and divisive politics that we see in Texas today — and get back to the big, bold vision that used to define Texas. A Texas big enough for all of us.”

In the Republican primary, Abbott is facing former TX GOP Chair Allen West and further right candidate Don Huffines, who says he’d be far better on immigration than Abbott.

However, with Trump’s endorsement at his back, Abbott will have to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory somehow to blow this race in our unbiased opinion.
