The Biden White House is set to fight the social media court injunction issued on the Fourth of July.
The injunction restricts certain communication from the administration, some federal agencies, and top officials with social media companies regarding “content containing protected speech.”
U.S. District Judge Terry Doughty issued the injunction Tuesday, and by Wednesday, Biden’s administration notified the court of its intent to appeal the order.
The Biden Administration believes they have the right to restrict speech under the guise of what they deem “misinformation.” They responded to the injunction stating the government “has promoted responsible actions to protect public health, safety, and security when confronted by challenges like a deadly pandemic and foreign attacks on our elections.”
“Our consistent view remains that social media platforms have a critical responsibility to take account of the effects their platforms are having on the American people, but make independent choices about the information they present.”
This injunction comes as part of a lawsuit against the actions taken to restrict free speech regarding Covid-19, masks, and vaccines.
While this is a win for Free Speech, it will continue to be battled out in the courts. We will see if it reaches the Supreme Court.
