With the anniversary of the August 12th, 2017 rally coming up, Black Lives Matter in Charlottesville took over a city street to hold a block party. They handed out papers that said “guidelines for allies” that included “NO POLICING!”

They called the event the “black joy fest” and despite the guidelines, a local activist said that it was “open to EVERYONE,” as long as they practiced social distancing.
Tomorrow’s event is open to EVERYONE, and all are welcome.

The reason why we are calling it the Black Joy Fest is because we want to remember to center Joy in the work that we do, especially as we approach A11/A12.
Show up! Share a meal with us + participate in the teach-in. https://t.co/ZI3nG6NPna
One video showed people littering the street with silly string, playing cornhole, and listening to music by rapper/activist Kendrick Lamar. A Black Lives Matter banner was visible on one tent. Another video showed vehicles blocking the street, with one having Black Lives matter written on the window.
