On the House floor today, Rep Burgess Owens (R-UT) railed against the Democrat’s attempted end-around to get voting bills discussed on the Senate floor.
“Late yesterday afternoon, my Republican colleagues and I learned that Democrats were dropping H.R. 1 and H.R. 4 into what is supposed to be a NASA bill,” Owens explained.
Owens asserted, “The American people joined me in wondering why Democrats must resort to procedural gimmicks to ram their so-called voting rights bill to the floor.”
In a tweet where he shared a clip of his speech, Owens said, “What was once a bipartisan NASA bill now includes provisions that strip power from states, nullify voter ID & give taxpayer dollars to political campaigns.”
“Democrats have officially lost their minds,” Owens declared.
In a quote tweet, Owens weighed in on how Democrats are trying to make the situation racial and asked, “What does actual voter suppression look like?”
“Jim Crow laws like poll taxes, property tests, literacy tests, and violence and intimidation at the polls. Don’t let Democrats fool you – America has come a long way since the 1960s,” Owens insisted.

As the New York Post reported, Democrats merged the John Lewis Voting Rights Act and the Freedom to Vote Act into a single text and crammed the new bill into previously passed legislation extending NASA’s authority to lease its facilities.
Democrats can then kick-start debate on the Senate floor without Republican support because the so-called “shell” NASA bill already cleared the House and Senate.
