John Roberts issued a temporary stay in favor of former President Trump. The order places the lower court ruling on hold while the full Supreme Court can decide whether to honor Trump’s request or not.
On Monday, Trump asked the Supreme Court to block the House Ways & Means Committee from obtaining his tax returns, with an emergency Supreme Court appeal. This came after a D.C. Circut court ruled that the committee could access the records.
The House committee has until Thursday to respond to the order.
John Roberts has granted a temporary “administrative” stay in Trump’s bid to stop a House committee from obtaining his tax returns. This is not a ruling on the merits of Trump’s request; it merely keeps the lower-court ruling on hold while SCOTUS considers the request. https://t.co/7WrSBrZlFh pic.twitter.com/CVweLTl9S0

This is one of many stays the court has issued of late, Kagan and Clarance recently issued stays in order for the whole court to debate testimony and records being turned over.
This isn’t an uncommon order as with issues that are controversial it seems a stay is ordered for more information to be brought forth as well as have the full Supreme Court decision.
