Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is back on the scene after his recent bout with Covid-19. Christie is considered by many to be tone-deaf has been so to speak. After the scandal with pictures of him on a closed beach, and bridge-gate, he is somewhat damaged goods politically speaking.
Despite all that, he has never had the popularity of Donald Trump, and most of the people who like him are probably in the dwindling state of New Jersey. While President Trump has not yet conceded the 2020 election, if his legal challenges fail, he will likely run in 2024.
Christie, knowing that, is saying that he wouldn’t rule out challenging Trump in 2024. Even the swampy GOP knows that Trump would be an unstoppable force if he runs in 2024, as he commands more popularity within the GOP than any other candidate or politician.
People like Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) can’t stand this because they want to take the GOP in another direction but have to play along with Trump’s fan base somewhat as well. They aren’t doing that great of a job but somehow have managed to keep getting re-elected to their seats in the House and the Senate using the power of the incumbency.
Christie told radio show host Hugh Hewitt recently that he wouldn’t rule out running against Trump in 2024 here. We think it’s laughable, but time will tell. We don’t even know what the political environment will look like a month from now, especially with the fate of US Senate control hanging in the balance while we await a Georgia Senate runoff race.
Fox News reported on Christie’s words:
“I certainly wouldn’t foreclose any possibility. Would I consider running? Sure, absolutely,” the former two-term governor said in July during an interview with the Washington Post.
Asked by Hewitt if he already has a Chris Christie 2024 web domain reserved, the former governor noted that he has ownership of ChrisChristie.com. “So we’re going to keep that one, and we’ll see where we go from here, Christie added.
Christie recently tweeted:
“Here is my interview this morning with @hughhewitt to discuss my PSA on the importance of wearing a mask and the future of the GOP. #WearAMask“
