CNN contributor Frida Ghitis today got in a bit of a back-and-forth with Elon Musk as she was upset about Musk’s proposed verification fee.
Ghitis accused Musk of “playing” with Twitter like “it’s a toy” and he’s “a child” to which he simply reiterated the price in response.
The tiff began when Musk tweeted, “Twitter is simply the most interesting place on the Internet. That’s why you’re reading this tweet right now.”
Ghitis responded by telling Musk, “That’s why it’s so sad watching you play with it like it’s a toy and you’re a child.”
Musk shot back by telling Ghitis simply, “$8.”
Ghitis apparently forgot about the inital tweet as she replied, “I can think of no reason right now to give you my money in exchange for a checkmark. Convince me it’s worth it.”

Musk is standing firm on the fee as he declared in a tweet last night, “To all complainers, please continue complaining, but it will cost $8.”
“Totally stole idea of charging for insults & arguments from Monty Python tbh,” Musk added, jokingly.
Musk also tweeted, “Twitter’s current lords & peasants system for who has or doesn’t have a blue checkmark is bullsh*t. Power to the people! Blue for $8/month.”
