CNN’s Brian Stelter Makes it Easy For Jen Psaki: ‘What Do You Think We Get Wrong?’

An interview between CNN’s Brian Stelter and White House press secretary Jen Psaki that aired yesterday has been slammed as Stelter pandered to her with a series of softball questions.

Right off the bat, without even asking her a tough question, Stelter asked, “Busy summer ahead, infrastructure, election reform. What does the press get wrong when covering Biden’s agenda? When you watch the news, when you read the news, what do you think we get wrong?”

U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) was among many to mock Stelter for that question specifically as he said in a tweet that the question sounded more like, “How can we better serve you, Master?”

Journalist Glenn Greenwald described how he viewed the question in a tweet where he said, “Have I been a bad boy, Jen? I want to be a good boy.”

Conservative commentator Dinesh D’Souza even recorded a video that he tweeted about the questions that were asked by Stelter.

“CNN’s Brian Stelter’s sycophantic question to Jen Psaki reveals how well this guy would fit in as a jester or juggler in a medieval French court,” D’Souza declared in the tweet.

Liberals, however, are attempting to brush off the criticism, like “news” show host Cody Johnston, who has a program on YouTube that is similar to shows like Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show.”

Johnston said in a tweet, “Brian Stelter is trending because he asked Psaki [a] softball question and I have nothing to add except I just found out that he is 35 years old.”

The other questions Stelter asked, as reported by The Washington Examiner:

  • “For other P.R. professionals who watch what you do, for journalists who watch what you do, what’s your advice for them about trying to stay as close to the truth in this world of lies?”
  • “I know this is often adversarial, but it also has to be functional. Is the relationship between the White House and the press corps now at least functional in ways that it wasn’t in the Trump years?” [Psaki: “I think so.”]
  • “This is what I really wanted to ask you. You mentioned your kids, you have a daughter going into kindergarten, I have a daughter going into pre-K. And I think to myself, what kind of country is this going to be when they are our age? Do you fear that, given the craziness we’re seeing from the GOP? Do you fear that for our kids, your kids and mine?”
