It seems that Colin Kaepernick fans will be disappointed again as no NFL team has offered the former 49ers’ quarterback a position, yet again.
Kaepernick has spent the past 6 years trying to make his way back into the NFL after he was released from the 49ers in 2016 becoming a free agent.
In 2016, for those who don’t remember, Kaepernick decided to protest on the field by kneeling for the national anthem. This spurred many other players in the NFL to follow suit and the NFL took quite a hit for allowing players to protest on the field.
Kaepernick filed a lawsuit in 2017 alleging league owners colluded to keep him out of the NFL. Eventually, Kapernick settled with the NFL and dropped the lawsuit in 2019. It was in the same year that Kaepernick was giving his first tryout since becoming a free agent in Atlanta.
Kaepernick pulled out of the workout as it would not be public, about 30 minutes before it was scheduled, and instead did a public workout at an Atlanta area high school.
Each offseason since then, many have watched to see if any NFL team would give him a chance. This past off-season included it looked like a hopeful possibility that Kaepernick would be signed, even if it wasn’t a starting position.
Kaepernick had worked out with Seattle Seahawks receiver Tyler Lockett, which lead to speculation of a potential comeback. The Seahawks however, traded for Drew Lock and have kept Geno Smith.
At one point he had a workout with the Las Vegas Raiders, which ended up going nowhere. The Raiders said the workout went well, but they also did not see a use for him as their confidence is in Derek Carr.
Some may believe that Kaepernick’s actions in the past seven years are the reason he hasn’t been signed, as any team that took him on may face backlash over his kneeling on the field during the national anthem.
Every year that Kaepernick is out of the NFL he seems less desirable to NFL teams, as he is now 34 and hasn’t played in a professional game since 2016.
