Colorado Rockies Accused Fan of Yelling ‘Racial Slur’, May Have Actually Just Been Name of Mascot, ‘Dinger’, No Official Retraction Yet

UPDATED: 08/10/21

Are we too on edge about race in this nation? Are we on pins and needles? Although we wait for an official statement, it does appear to us at first glance that a huge oversight was made last night by the baseball team the Colorado Rockies. They are an official MLB team as well. Last night they put this out:

“A statement from the Colorado Rockies regarding the racial slur incident at the end of today’s game:”

From the video above:

“The fan wasn’t even looking at Brinson. He’s pointing and waving at your mascot “Dinger”. Retract the statement, apologize to the fan, and do better”

“NEW: The Rockies tell me last night’s incident was a fan shouting to get the attention of the Rockies mascot Dinger, not a racial slur. The Rockies have spoken to the fan who confirms this is the case. They’ve also reviewed video from the local broadcast. #9News

Here’s the video by the way. I’ve highlighted both the fan and Dinger in the first clip, then zoomed in on the fan in the second clip. And Dinger in the third.”

However, according to KDVR, the Rockies already conceded to what really happened, but no retraction on their Twitter feed as of yet:

The Rockies organization said that it investigated the incident and determined the fan was shouting at the team mascot, not yelling a racial slur at a player.

How fast are we to judge, and how slow are we to correct? It is so sad that racial strife sells and racial harmony apparently gets swept under the rug. We will update this story when and if we can with the latest.

Pete D’Abrosca tweeted:

“Yet another case of the media’s demand for racism exceeding the supply.”

From TMZ: “It might’ve been “Dinger” instead of the other word.”

The Colorado Rockies issued a tweet with their findings in the investigation into the supposed racial slur being hurled by fans.
