Corey Stewart Calls Brooklyn Center Mayor a ‘Thug’ After City Manager Fired For Wanting Officer to Have Due Process in Fatal Shooting

Tensions are high after a fatal police shooting in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, just outside of Minneapolis and that was apparent a press conference today.

The Mayor of the city, Mike Elliott, pushed for the city manager, Curt Boganey, to fire the officer who pulled the trigger at the press conference.

After Boganey said that he believed she deserved due process, an emergency meeting was held where Boganey was relieved of his duties.

In a Fox News Facebook post of the decision, former Virginia Senate GOP nominee Corey Stewart remarked that he believed the Mayor is a “thug” for not supporting the city manager’s call for due process.

Elliott has been soaking up the limelight of the situation today, tweeting out earlier, “Just got off the phone with the @WhiteHouse. I appreciate @POTUS reaching out to offer his administration’s support.”

In another tweet, Elliott said, “Just got off the phone with Daunte’s father to offer my condolences. I cannot begin to imagine the pain his family is going through right now, but we grieve with you for your loss. I also assured him that I will do everything to ensure justice is served.”

Previously, we reported:

This evening, Brooklyn Center City Manager Curt Boganey was fired hours during an emergency meeting by city council after he publicly disagreed with Mayor Mike Elliott’s assertion that the police officer who fatally shot a resisting suspect in the Minneapolis suburb should herself be immediately fired in response to the incident.

According to the Star Tribune, during a virtual workshop after the meeting, Council Member Kris Lawrence-Anderson said she voted to fire Boganey out of fear of potential reprisals from protestors if she did not.

“He was doing a great job. I respect him dearly. I didn’t want repercussions at a personal level,” Lawrence-Anderson lamented.

Elliott has also been given command authority over the city’s police department based on a separate vote that was taken at the meeting.

In a tweet, Elliott said, “Effective immediately our city manager has been relieved of his duties, and the deputy city manager will be assuming his duties moving forward. I will continue to work my hardest to ensure good leadership at all levels of our city government.”
