A handful of Republicans are claiming they are not planning to support U.S. House Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) for House Speaker in a vote today. Bob Good (R-VA), Lauren Boebert (R-CO) and Matt Gaetz (R-FL) are among the dissenters.
Many reports have questioned if McCarthy has been too cozy with Democrats, potentially “two faced” on supporting former President Donald Trump, and are concerned that he won’t impeach President Joe Biden, among other concerns.
Many would rather see Reps. Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Steve Scalise (R-LA) or Jim Jordan (R-OH) as speaker instead. Most Republican voters seem to be fans of Jordan, but he likely doesn’t want to run for speaker.
Nevertheless, McCarthy is facing headwinds with 5 firm no votes, when he can only lose 4, according to Fox News. U.S. House Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) scolded those standing up to McCarthy, hurling insults at them:
“The dude who starred in his own cringey Marvel-style campaign video is calling people who don’t back McCarthy “narcissists” who are living in a “make believe fantasy reality.”
Crenshaw claimed Rep. Good was mad that McCarthy didn’t call him fast enough after he won his election, which seems unlikely. We will be updating or publishing more stories on this developing situation.
It’s also being reported that 9 more reps may join in against McCarthy. Many Republicans are mad that “MAGA Republican candidates” were not helped by the GOP Senate and House, and that it is becoming a “uniparty”situation if they don’t stand up here and now.
