Buffalo Bills Release Official Statement, Damar Hamlin ‘Suffered Cardiac Arrest Following a Hit’ and in Critical Condition

Late Monday, the Buffalo Bills released a statement on what happened last night to Damar Hamlin, the team’s safety. Hamlin collapsed on the field after he was struck in the chest while tackling the Bengals’ wide receiver Tee Higgins.

“Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest following a hit in our game versus the Bengals. His heartbeat was restored on the field and he was transferred to the UC Medical Center for further testing and treatment. He is currently sedated and listed in critical condition.”

Currently, there don’t appear to be any more updates on his condition. His collapse caught everyone off guard.

Indianapolis Colts safety Rodney McLeod Jr. told CNN:

“As players, injuries are always our deepest fear. … But often, you know, we tend to try to remove any of those thoughts the moment we hit the field,” he said, adding that it’s common to see injuries like ligament tears, muscle strains, broken bones and concussions among others. “We’ve become very numb to it, unfortunately.”

However, Hamlin’s collapse was unprecedented, he said. “What we saw last night was something that we’ve never have seen before. In my 11 years in the NFL, I never experienced anything like that, and that brings the reality [of] the sport to life.”

Many are watching for an update on Hamlin’s condition and many more are praying for his recovery.

A toy drive he started in 2020 has now received over 3 1/2 million in donations.

Tee Higgins shared on Twitter:

“My prayers and thoughts go out to @HamlinIsland the Hamlin Family. I’m praying that you pull through bro. Love”

Well-known bills fan Del Reid who co-founded “Bills Mafia” responded to Higgins and let him know many are praying for him as well:

“You’ve got a lot of prayer coming your way as well, man. None of this is on you. Don’t let those thoughts creep in or linger”

We will bring you updates as they develop.
