Dem NJ Gov Phil Murphy Declared Winner in Re-Election Bid, But Many Wonder What Happened in Bergen County

Democratic New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy has been declared the winner in his re-election bid, defeating Republican challenger and former state legislator Jack Ciattarelli by a razor-thin margin.

As of the most recent update with the Washington Post, Murphy is up by nearly 20k votes.

Many, however, are wondering what happened in Bergen County, the most populous county in the state, where Murphy won by a shade over 11k votes.

As political pundit “Conservative Black Man” tweeted, “Something happened in Bergen County, New Jersey at 1:54am ET on November 3rd 2021.”

Another Twitter user Paul A. Szypula explained, “Bergen County, NJ 100% Reporting Midnight: 219,894 votes Ciattarelli up 5% 7:30 AM: 261,528 votes Murphy up 4% Democrats ‘found’ 41,634 votes. Audit New Jersey?”

A number of the counties in New Jersey flipped from blue to red in the election and former Nevada GOP Chairwoman Amy Tarkanian had believed that Bergen was one that had as well, prior to the switch.

“Not a single person thought New Jersey would flip Red. The Republican candidate Ciatarelli is leading in Bergen County right now. Joe Biden is a failed President,” Tarkanian tweeted last night just before 11 p.m.

Many are attributing the switch to early or mail-in votes being counted in the county.

Deputy County Clerk Steve Chong told NewJersey.com, “We have three different agencies with three different duties, so we don’t have a unified file, but we’re working on it.”

Whatever the case may be, officials need to find a way to make sure that these sort of late night flip-flops don’t continue to happen as it can make voters skeptical of the results.
