Bloomberg Targeted as Dems Get Aggressive With Each Other at Last Night’s Debate

Those participating in last night’s Democratic Debate seem to have taken the advice of Andrew Yang, who recently dropped out of the primary, “Donald Trump is not the cause of all of our problems, and we are making a mistake when we act like he is.” Instead of attacking Trump, they turned on each other.

Former NYC mayor Michael Bloomberg made his debut in the debate after not participating in the first two nominating contests. He was a main target for the other candidates. James Woods summarized it interestingly enough in a tweet where he said “If you’re just tuning into tonight’s #DemocratClownShow, here’s the first hour in a nutshell…”.

Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) started criticizing a billionaire to make the audience think she was describing Donald Trump at the end she pivoted and stated she was, in fact, describing Bloomberg. Warren said, “we’re running against a billionaire who calls women, fat broads and horse-faced lesbians, and no I’m not talking about Donald Trump I’m talking about mayor Bloomberg…” The audience was taken aback by this comment, Warren continued “look I’ll support whoever the Democratic nominee is, but understand this; democrats take a huge risk if we just substitute one arrogant billionaire for another. ”

Senator Bernie Sanders (D-VT) was asked what he would say to voters who are uncomfortable with a socialist candidate for president. Bernie pointed out, in his opinion, we live in a socialist society right now, and went on to say that the rich have the socialism and the poor have rugged individualism. He described tax breaks used by the wealthy as socialism for the rich. Sanders ultimately did not answer the initial question, what would he say to a voter uncomfortable with a socialist candidate.

After that, others cut Bernie off and turned to Bloomberg. Bloomberg’s retort was directed at Bernie. “What a wonderful country we have, the best known socialist in the country happens to be a millionaire with three houses. What am I missing here?” This hit a nerve with Bernie who had a bit of a meltdown justifying his three homes and then tried to turn it around on Bloomberg asking about his homes.

Former Vice President Biden also took a swing at Bloomberg over his “Stop and Frisk” policy. Biden claimed that “Stop and Frisk” was changed because Obama sent moderators to investigate what was going on in New York. Biden also claimed that Bloomberg thought it was a terrible idea then declared “let’s get the facts straight.” Well, Biden was fact-checked and it turns out his facts weren’t straight. See the Tweet below from FactCheck.org.

Former mayor, Pete Buttigieg went after Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) for not knowing the name of the Mexican president when asked in a recent in an interview. Buttigieg implies Klobachar should have known the name of the Mexican president because she sits on the committee on Trade and also the committee that oversees border security. Klobuchar was visually insulted by what Buttigieg inferred. She asked him directly “Are you trying to say I’m dumb or are you mocking me here, Pete? I made an error, people sometimes forget names. “

Last night’s debate was the first time the gloves really came off for all of those on the stage. The drama and tensions were high. The national polls have done a lot of shifting since Iowa held it’s failed primary which had no clear winner in the beginning. This Saturday Nevada will hold there primary with early voting already open in the state.
