Despite Massive Ad Blitz, Chris Cuomo’s NewsNation Primetime Show Experiences Rating Flop in Debut

Despite a massive ad blitz, Chris Cuomo’s NewsNation primetime show experienced a rating flop in its debut.

Cuomo had shared evidence of the ad blitz in various tweets prior to the debut of the show.

#LetsGetAfterIt the show: what matters and why. Not just politics and def more than just the toxic left/right game. no demonizing, but no false equivalency either. Lets have the discussion that you have In reality, not on social media”

According to figures released by Nielsen media, Cuomo’s show on NewsNation pulled in just 147,000 total viewers on Monday night.

In the 25-to-54-year-old age demographic, which is most coveted by advertisers, Cuomo drew just 8,000 viewers.

While NewsNation is not a well-known news outlet, Cuomo’s viewership in the 25-54 demographic was smaller than the 7 p.m. hour that preceded his show on the network.

Nielsen also reported that CNBC, Fox Business, HLN, and Newsmax all outdrew Cuomo in the 25-54 demographic.

The New York Post noted that reruns of syndicated shows such as “Blue Bloods” on NewsNation as well as “Paw Patrol,” “SpongeBob,” “Seinfeld,” “Cocomelon,” “The Office” and “Bobs Burgers” all drew more total viewers and in the 25-54 demographic.

NewsNation shared clips from the show in a tweet and said, “During the premiere of his new show, @ChrisCuomo says he has spent a lot of time on the sidelines looking and listening, and vows to make his show ‘different.'”
