Disney and Breaking Bad Actor Pled Down to Two Years in Federal Prison for Sex Crime Involving Minor

In December of 2018, Stoney Westmoreland was arrested and charged with enticing a minor and dealing in materials harmful to a minor in Salt Lake City, Utah. These charges led Disney to fire the actor who played Andi’s grandpa on the Disney series “Andi Mack”. Westmoreland also played a minor role as Officer Saxton on “Breaking Bad” and “Better Caul Saul”.

On Monday, Westmoreland pleaded guilty to the use of interstate facilities to transmit information about a minor and was sentenced two spend two years behind bars in federal prison. This was a lesser charge than he originally faced. He initially faced 10 years behind bars on six separate felony counts. He is to surrender to serve his time no later than July 18th according to court documents.

In 2018, Westmoreland used the app Grindr and found the profile of an underage boy reported to be 13-years-old, the account was being operated by detectives in Salt Lake City. Eventually, Westmoreland took a car ride from a ride-sharing app to meet up with the boy and had plants to bring him back to his hotel room.

According to authorities, Westmoreland sent explicit photos, in turn, requested nudes from the account he thought was a young boy.

According to charging documents, Westmoreland acknowledged he sent the nudes to what he believed was a 13-year-old boy. His lawyer, Wendy Lewis, however, disputed this claim saying, “Mr. Westmoreland maintains that he believed the person he was speaking with was likely an adult engaging in role-play. Had there been an actual minor there when he arrived, he would have left.”

Lewis continued, “Due to the possibility of a minimum 10-year sentence and conservative Utah juries, Mr. Westmoreland agreed to plead to the lesser offense of transmitting information about a minor for the purpose of engaging in sexual activity.”

Fortunately in this case there was no child victim. Westmoreland will be under supervised release for at least 10 years and is mandated to register as a sex offender for 25 years. Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew Choate said Westmore will be limited to “possessing only one personal computer and/or internet-capable device, devices are subject to random inspection.”
