Country music legend Dolly Parton delivered a religious message during a prime-time NBC Christmas special.
The Grammy-winning singer made the comments during her “Dolly Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas” which aired last Thursday, Dec. 1.
Parton rebuked satan while performing her hit song “Go to hell” which was complete with a supporting choir.
Halfway through the song, the choir gathered around and Parton preached, “My brothers and my sisters, I am here to tell you that Satan is real.”
“He is real and walking around amongst us, trying to destroy everything that’s good and beautiful,” Parton insisted.
Parton then pointed out that, “He wants to break our hearts and minds, destroy our dreams and plans. He wants to tear us up in little pieces, break us down, and and send us straight to hell.”
The choir then gasped, “Oh my God” as Parton continued, “You’ve said a mouthful brother, Oh my God can do anything!”
“My God can heal the sick, mend broken hearts, and take our souls to heaven. So Satan, listen up, in God’s name I rebuke you. I stand up in his name, look you in the eye, and laugh in your ugly face,” Parton concluded as she resumed the song.
At the end of the song, Parton was lifted up by the choir as an actor and eventually cast a dancer, who appeared to be playing satan, into hell.
NBC Entertainment shared a clip of the performance in a tweet, tagging Parton, and said, “Go to hell in a handbasket, heaven’s callin’ me!”
