Donald Trump Claims Victory, Announces that His Jan. 6 Committee Subpoena is ‘Dead’

Former President and 2024 Presidential candidate Donald Trump claimed victory tonight in a Truth Social post as he announced that his Jan. 6 House Select Committee subpoena is “dead.”

Trump began, “Was just advised that the Unselect Committee of political Thugs has withdrawn the Subpoena of me concerning the January 6th Protest of the CROOKED 2020 Presidential Election.”

“They probably did so because they knew I did nothing wrong, or they were about to lose in Court,” Trump explained.

Trump then suggested that “Perhaps the FBI’s involvement in RIGGING the Election played into their decision.”

“In any event, the Subpoena is DEAD!” Trump declared in conclusion.

In October, we reported that the committee announced in a tweet, “Pursuant to a unanimous vote, the Select Committee issued a subpoena to former President Donald Trump for testimony and records relevant to the Select Committee’s investigation into the January 6th attack on the United States Capitol and its causes.”

“In a letter to Mr. Trump, Chair @BennieGThompson and Vice Chair @RepLizCheney underscored Trump’s central role in a deliberate, orchestrated effort to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election and block the transfer of presidential power,” the committee added along with screenshots of the letter.

In November, Trump filed a suit against the committee which contended that, while former presidents have voluntarily agreed to provide testimony or documents in response to congressional subpoenas in the past, “no president or former president has ever been compelled to do so.”

Trump attorney David A. Warrington said in a statement announcing the former president’s intentions, “Long-held precedent and practice maintain that separation of powers prohibits Congress from compelling a President to testify before it.”
