Fox News commentator and former Donald Trump White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany has long been a supporter of Trump world. However, Trump has noticed that she has been quite supportive of Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis as well.
Within conservative circles, this is not usually an issue. However, more recently, DeSantis’ 2024 aspiration speculation has turned into what many call a shadow campaign. The mud slinging between DeSantis has begun.
Folks like Bill O’Reilly have pointed out that Fox News is less and less pro Trump, particularly after the parting of ways with Tucker Carlson. McEnany has probably had to thread the needle with her recent rhetoric.
In a Truth Social post today by Donald Trump, he appears to lightly call out McEnany, claiming that perhaps Trump favorable polling may be triggering a shift in her tone.
Trump Quote Truthed a post from a couple weeks ago actually, where McEnany complimented Trump’s Carlson interview, not long before his Fox News Departure.
“I guess Kayleigh is no longer speaking so favorably about DeSanctimonious now that his Polls are shot!”
A screenshot of the Truth began circulating on Twitter pretty quickly.
“Trump is watching who is loyal to him and who is not.”
The bottom line here in our view is that Trump is still very much wanting McEnany to be on his side. However, his subtle jab is in true Trump form as well.
Trump and DeSantis’ strained relationship:
Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis were once close allies, but their relationship has become increasingly strained in recent months. The two men are now seen as potential rivals for the Republican nomination for president in 2024, and each has been taking shots at the other.
Trump has been critical of DeSantis’ handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, and his support from RINOs like Jeb Bush and the McCain family, among other things.
The growing rift between Trump and DeSantis is a sign of the deep divisions within the Republican Party. Trump remains the most popular figure in the party, but he is also a polarizing figure. DeSantis is seen by many as a rising star in the party, and he has been gaining in popularity among Republican voters.
It remains to be seen whether Trump and DeSantis will run against each other in 2024. But if they do, their race would be one of the most closely watched in American history.
Here are some of the specific reasons why Trump and DeSantis are at odds:
- COVID-19: Trump has repeatedly criticized DeSantis’ handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has been far more restrictive than Trump’s own policies. DeSantis has defended his approach, saying that it has saved lives.
- Ethanol: Trump has been a vocal supporter of ethanol, a biofuel made from corn. DeSantis, on the other hand, has opposed ethanol subsidies, saying that they are a waste of taxpayer money.
- Social Security: Trump has accused DeSantis of being less favorable towards social security preservation than he is.
It is unclear whether Trump and DeSantis will be able to mend their relationship. But if they do not, their rivalry could have a major impact on the 2024 Republican presidential primary.
