Since Elon Musk and Twitter came to a deal for him to purchase the social media platform, left-wing groups have reportedly begun putting pressure on advertisers.
In a letter that included Black Lives Matter, the groups urged marketers to secure commitments from Twitter to retain its most critical policies.
“As top advertisers on Twitter, your brand risks association with a platform amplifying hate, extremism, health misinformation, and conspiracy theorists,” the groups declared in the letter.
The groups also told the marketers, which include Coca-Cola, Disney, and Kraft that “Your ad dollars can either fund Musk’s vanity project or hold him to account.”
Musk shared a CNN article about the letter in a two-part tweet yesterday and asked, “Who funds these organizations that want to control your access to information?”
“Let’s investigate …” Musk suggested.
Musk then added in the second part of the tweet that “Sunlight is the best disinfectant.”

CNN reported that Twitter didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
However, Twitter told advertisers in an investor filing Monday, “we have no planned changes to our commitment to brand safety” but that the company “cannot speculate on changes Elon Musk may make post closing.”
