Elon Musk today responded after a clip showing U.S. House Rep Sylvia Garcia (D-TX) pressuring him to reveal the sources behind his Twitter Files report.
Journalist Benny Johnson initially shared a clip of the exchange that occurred on the House floor and said, “Chaos erupts during House Weaponization Committee hearing as unhinged Democrats try to coerce Twitter Files journalists to reveal their sources.”
Collin Rugg then shared the clip in a tweet of his own where he said, “Matt Taibbi refuses to reveal his sources after Democrats try to intimidate him over the Twitter Files. Taibbi is an American hero.”
Musk responded to Rugg, “I’m not his source, but, yeah, obviously asking journalists to reveal sources is not cool.”
Fox News reported on the exchange that took place between Taibbi and Garcia asked when Musk first approached him to partake in the “Twitter Files” report.
After a lengthy back-and-forth, Garcia said the “only logical conclusion” is that Musk is a source and Taibbi told her she was “free to conclude” whatever she wants.
Garcia then said that she wanted to move on, but first said that Taibbi “can’t have it both ways” which caused House Judiciary Committee chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) to tell her that he actually can.
After there was some disagreement between the Republicans and Democrats in the hearing, Jordan said, “He’s not going to reveal his source and the fact that Democrats are pressuring him to do that is such a violation of the First Amendment.”
Garcia ultimately asked to reclaim her time and Jordan obliged by giving her an additional 10 seconds.
