Twitter owner Elon Musk wondered today “why so many in the media are against free speech” after White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre responded to a reporter’s leading question by telling her that the White House is “monitoring” Twitter.
In a clip shared in a tweet by Disclose.TV, the reporter called it a “critical moment in ensuring that Twitter does not become a vector for misinformation.”
“Are you concerned about… Elon Musk says there are more and more subscribers coming online… are you concerned about that and what tools do you have? Who at the White House is really keeping track of this?” the reporter asked.
Jean-Pierre responded that “This is something that we are certainly keeping an eye on.”
“We are all keeping a close eye on this, we’re all monitoring what is currently occurring, we see it with our own eyes of what you all are reporting, and for ourselves what is occurring on Twitter,” Jean-Pierre insisted.
Musk replied to Dave Rubin, who shared the clip in a quote tweet, “Why are so many in the media against free speech? This is messed up.”

As we previously reported, a poll on whether or not to reinstate former President and 2024 GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump concluded with 52% approving.
Musk reinstated Trump not long thereafter, although he has yet to use the platform again.
Another poll asked whether Twitter should offer a general amnesty to suspended accounts.
That poll concluded with an overwhelming majority approving at 72%.
Musk responded to the result, “The people have spoken. Amnesty begins next week.”
In a tweet following Jean-Pierre’s answer and his response to that, Musk declared, “The Twitter Files on free speech suppression soon to be published on Twitter itself. The public deserves to know what really happened …”
