Even U.S. Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) is able to see how foolish it is for the mainstream media to try to bait U.S. Congresswoman Liz Cheney (R-WY) by talking about a potential presidential run.
Following her primary loss on Tuesday, Cheney was pressed about a possible presidential run by NBC News and she told them that she was “thinking about” it.
At a speaking event on Thursday, Romney said, “I’m not going to encourage anyone to run for president. I’ve done that myself, and that’s something I’m not doing again.”
In regards to Cheney, Romney continued, “I don’t know if she really wants to do that. She would not become the nominee if she were to run. I can’t imagine that would occur.”
Romney, who was a featured speaker at a Cheney fundraiser earlier this year, thinks that she might run for other purposes but said “I’m not in collaboration with that effort.”
I don’t think someone who is seen outside the Trump circle would have any realistic chance of becoming the nominee in 2024, barring something I can’t foresee at this stage,” Romney noted.
Romney explained that “If [Trump] doesn’t run again, I think it’ll be people who either were supporters of his or people who didn’t say much about him and then would be open to become the nominee.”
“I salute her courage. You wouldn’t call it courage, by the way, if there were no consequence for doing what you think is right. She did what she thought was right. I believe she was right,” Romney added.
Comedian Terrence K. Williams wasn’t buying it, however, and declared in a tweet, “Liz Cheney and Mitt Romney might run together in 2024.”
