Ex-Notre Dame college football head coach Charlie Weis made an “exception” today and tweeted out about politics.
Weis’s tweet has enraged liberals as he slammed socialism in the rare political opinion about the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
“I never tweet anything about politics, but today is an exception,” Weis began.
Weis then asked, “As I watch Russia continue their invasion of Ukraine this morning, I ask if Americans that want socialism are watching?”
“Do you want to be a part of something like this?” Weis wondered.
It is unclear exactly what Weis meant completely, but he appeared to be taking a shot at Joe Biden’s ineptitude in solving the crisis.
Many on the left descended on his tweet to come to the defense of socialism.
One Twitter user told Weis, “Should’ve stopped after the first six words, Charlie. Neither country is ‘socialist’, if that word has any meaning beyond ‘a nickname for stuff I don’t like’.”

Verified Twitter user, Adam Herman, lectured, “Hey Charlie, while you’re fearmongering about government wealth retribution, do you want to remind everyone how much state appropriations paid for you to coach football at Florida and Kansas public universities?”

Given the backlash, it may be the last time that Weis offers a political opinion on the internet, but in August, he also criticized the Afghanistan withdrawal.
“With this disaster in Afghanistan, let us first get our people out safe as well as the Afghans who helped us before we turn this into a political game of finger pointing and excuse making. Oh and as they say in any conflict yet to come, payback is a b_ _ _ _!” Weis said at the time.
