FBI Director Wray Faces Questions from Republicans For Using Taxpayer-funded Plane to Fly to Vacation Home

Republicans in the House sent a letter on Monday to FBI Director Christopher Wray for using a taxpayer-funded plane to fly to his vacation home following a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing last week.

U.S. Congresswoman Elise Stefanik (R-NY) along with U.S. Congressmen James Comer (R-KY) and Mike Turner (R-OH) sent the letter to Wray Monday.

Stefanik shared a Fox News report on the letter today and said, “I am working with @JamesComer and @MikeTurnerOH to hold FBI Director Wray accountable for using a taxpayer-funded plane to fly to his #NY21 family vacation home.”

U.S. Sen Chuck Grassley (R-IA) asked the FBI director to stay longer to answer additional questions during the hearing last week.

Wray, however, departed the hearing and headed to his vacation home using the FBI’s Gulfstream 550 jet, which was originally intended for use for counterintelligence operations, Fox News reported.

During the hearing, Grassley inquired, “We just heard a half hour ago about you having to leave at 1:30… Is there any reason we couldn’t accommodate them for 21 minutes?”

“Senator, I had a flight that I’m supposed to be high-tailing it to outta here, and I had understood that we were going to be done at 1:30, so that’s how we ended up where we are,” Wray responded.

In the letter, the Republicans told Wray, “You reportedly departed on the FBI’s Gulfstream 550 jet, an agency aircraft initially intended for counterterrorism use, to make the one hour and 12-minute journey to Saranac Lake.”

“Further, it has been reported that you made a similar personal trip on a government aircraft on June 2 and June 5, 2022,” the letter also noted.

The FBI gave a statement to Fox News Digital that said that Wray is following regulations, including reimbursement for personal travel.
