Florida Dem Gov candidate Nikki Fried, who is also the highest-ranking elected Democratic official in the state, made a crude sexual joke in a tweet about GOP Gov Ron DeSantis today.
Fried then attempted to play it off in a reply to her tweet by suggesting she didn’t actually mean what she meant.
Just last month, Fried tweeted a tacky picture of herself in an attempt to appeal to north Florida voters.
In the tweet, Fried claimed, “Ron DeSantis is doing everything he can to become a dictator. He’s already half of that word there.”
Fried then shared a picture of DeSantis surrounded by potatoes in a reply to her tweet, attempting to suggest that she meant that he is a “tater,” rather than a “d*ck.”
DeSantis spokesperson Christina Pushaw quote tweeted Fried and called it a, “Junior high school mentality.”

Florida congressional candidate Lavern Spicer responded to Fried, “And you rhyme with the word snitch, so chill out there Nikita Kruschev.”

Journalist Caleb Hull told Fried to “fire whoever thought this was a good idea.”

While some supporters found the tweet to be in good humor, many others told Fried that it was poor judgment.
“Funny, if posted by a random commentator. But please stay away from this. It may get you laughs, but it gets you no votes,” said Twitter user “justabill” who has “resist” in their profile.
