Monday, Floyd Mayweather put out a video message in suport of Olympian and NBA star Kyrie Irving’s choice to not vaccinate against COVID-19. This has lead Irving unable to play. The Nets are also not allowing Irving to practice with the team or play at away agains as a part-time player.
Kyrie Irving plays for the Brooklyn Nets, in Brooklyn New York. New York City and San Franciso are the only two cities in the country that have mandated proof of vaccination for competitions inside stadiums. According to an aticle by The Atlantic from last month 90% of the NBA players are vaccinated. Standing firm in his choice not to vaccinate against COVID-19 he isn’t being allowed to play.
Mayweather tweeted out a video to Irving captioned, “Choice is defined as an act of selecting or making a decision when faced with two or more possibilities. America gave us the choice to take the vaccine or not take the vaccine. As time moves on, that choice is gradually being stripped from us.”
Mayweather starts off the video talking about haning out with Iriving at the 2016 Olympics in Rio. He makes the comment, “You only want to be treated fair.” Instead of posting his thoughts on social media Mayweather decided to instead record what he was going to post.
“America is the land of the free” Mayweather starts, “freedom of speach, freedom of religiion, and supsedly freedom to choose. Never be controlled by money. I respect you for having some integrity and being your own man. A Free mind makes his own choices and a slave mind follows the crowd. Stand for something or fall for anything. One man can lead a revolution, to stand up and fight for what’s right. One choice, one word, one action can change the world. It’s crazy how people hate you for being a leader. I hope your actions encourage many others to stand up and say, enough is enough. Respect to you Kyrie and power to the people.”

Almost two weeks ago, Kyrie took to instagram live to get his feeling about what is going on out, as the media continues to attack him for his personal choice. A twenty minute video of the live streamw as posted to youtube which can be seen below. Kyrie addresses the division the media is creating as well adding if you choose to vaccinate I support you if you choose not to I support you. His message is one of freedom of choice.
Fans of his are unhappy that he isn’t being allowed to play. A protest was held at Barclay center on Sunday when the Nets were having their home season opener. At one point the Barclay center was on lockdown due to the protest.
The NBA is pushing for all players to get vaccinated but have yet to make it mandated. The media contiunes to attack those whoh choose not to vaccinate by eluding that they are just to dumb to make the right decision and vaccinate.
Bradley Beal of the Wizards was attacked by The Atantic: “Beal, for example, tried to turn questions about vaccination back on reporters. “I would like an explanation to, you know, people with vaccines,” he said Monday. “Why are they still getting COVID? If that’s something that we are supposed to highly be protected from, like, it’s funny that it only reduces your chances of going to the hospital. It doesn’t eliminate anybody from getting COVID, right? So is everybody in here vaxxed, I would assume? Right. So you all can still get COVID, right?” Never mind that health experts have repeatedly said that the COVID-19 vaccines offer strong protection against severe illness, hospitalization, and death but not necessarily against contracting the coronavirus itself.“
People want to have the freedom to choose. The main stream media doesn’t seem to feel the same way about medical freedom.
