Ghislaine Maxwell, the friend of the late Jeffrey Epstein, has been charged with six counts related to the sexual misconduct charges related to Epstein.
Of the counts, she was found not guilty on count 2, but guilty on all others. More details to come.
Updates:
Count 1: Guilty of conspiracy to entice an individual under the age of 17 to travel on interstate commerce with the intent to engage in illegal sexual activity.
Count 2: Not guilty of enticement of an individual under the age of 17 to travel with the intent to engage in illegal sexual activity.
Count 3: Guilty of conspiracy to transport individuals under the age of 17 (a minor) to travel on interstate commerce with intent to engage in illegal sexual activity.
Count 4: Guilty of transportation of an individual under the age of 17 with intent to engage in illegal sexual activity.
Count 5: Guilty of sex trafficking conspiracy.
Count 6: Guilty of sex trafficking of an individual under the age of 18 (a minor).
Maxwell faces a total of 65 years in prison depending on how the sentencing goes. Stay tuned for more possible updates on this breaking development. Many speculated that Maxwell may have walked due to a poor prosecution. There was even a report of a possible mistrial due to Omicron. But she is now guilty of 5 of 6 major charges.
Previously Bloomberg had reported in part that the trial may have been on the rocks:
The judge presiding over Ghislaine Maxwell’s sex-trafficking trial warned that the “astronomical spike” in Covid cases driven by the omicron variant could lead to a mistrial.
U.S. District Judge Alison Nathan told lawyers on Tuesday afternoon that she was considering having jurors deliberate through the holiday weekend if they failed to reach a verdict by New Year’s Eve. Earlier in the day, she asked jurors to be prepared to stay until 6 p.m. instead of 5 p.m.
The victims are likely relieved to hear that a verdict came out. People were especially suspicious after Jeffrey Epstein reportedly killed himself in a New York prison, that justice may never come. This isn’t the perfect scenario for the victims but perhaps the best they may get now.
