We reported yesterday on the pretrial confinement of Lt. Col. Stuart Scheller and that U.S. House Rep Lauren Boebert (R-CO) demanded his release in a tweet.
Last night, a group of GOP House Reps. signed onto a letter to the U.S. Marine Corps Commandant asking for LTC Scheller to be release.
U.S. House Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) was one of the Republicans who signed the letter and she tweeted about it, “Proud to sign this letter.”

It appears that at the time of the posting of the letter in a tweet by U.S. House Rep Louie Gohmert (R-TX), 27 representatives had signed the letter with 33 overall listed.
In the letter, it states that they believe the confinement to simply be for messaging, retribution, and convenience.
That would be a fragrant violation of R.C.M. 305(h)(2)(b) “a person should not be confined as a mere matter of convenience.”
Additionally, they request that according to the same provision, LTC Scheller should be accommodated in the “less serious forms of restraint.”
Many on the left are constantly crying about the “school to prison pipeline,” how cash bail should be eliminated, and other criminal justice reforms, but some now apparently believe that LTC Scheller has committed a grave act and deserves his fate.
In response to Gohmert’s tweet, Twitter user Mike Frost suggested, “He violated military law. He deserves what he’s getting. Just because you agree with what he said, as a soldier he does not get to challenge military leadership publicly.”

Another Twitter user who apparently claimed to be a military vet replied, “He broke the rules. He gets punished. He isn’t special. It’s the military. We all had to abide by those rules.”

It is unclear if the military leaders will be moved by the letter or not, but one thing is for certain, under the Biden Administration, anything is possible.
