GOP Rep Tom Rice, Who Voted to Impeach Trump, Gets Destroyed in South Carolina Primary by Russell Fry

U.S. House Rep Tom Rice (R-SC) failed in an effort tonight to even force a runoff with Trump-backed primary challenger Russell Fry.

Rice was one of 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach former President Donald Trump after Jan. 6.

When the Associated Press called the race, Fry had 51.1% of the vote, while Rice was at 24.6% and only 50% was needed to avoid the runoff.

As NPR noted, after voting to impeach Trump, Rice even doubled down and said he regretted not voting to certify the presidential election in favor of Joe Biden.

Rice was later censured by the South Carolina Republican Party for his impeachment vote, saying voting to impeach an outgoing president was a “political kick.”

CNN reporter Edward-Issac Dovere reported earlier that Rice spent “part of his primary day on MSNBC (perhaps because South Carolina has crossover voting).”

Fry lamented in a quote tweet, “Last-minute outreach for Tom Rice means going live on MSNBC and targeting liberal democrats. Amazing.”

Earlier this month, former House Speaker Paul Ryan endorsed Rice and appeared at an event in South Carolina for him.

“There were a lot of people who wanted to vote like Tom but who just didn’t have the guts to do it,” Ryan claimed.
