HOF NFL Head Coach Tony Dungy Fires Back At Critics By Pointing Out That Barack Obama Once Said the ‘Same Things’ About the Importance of Fathers Being Present in Their Children’s Lives

Hall of Fame NFL Head Coach Tony Dungy fired back at critics today by pointing out that Barack Obama once said the same thing about the importance of fathers being present in their children’s lives.

Dungy recently appeared alongside Florida GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis for the signing of a new law that promotes fatherhood in the state.

The law directs $70 million in funding to educational and mentorship programs to help children, fathers, and families in the state.

In a tweet, Dungy declared, “2 days ago I spoke on behalf of a Florida bill that supports dads & families and it offended some people.”

“14 yrs ago Pres Obama said the same things almost verbatim. I’m assuming people were outraged at him too,” Dungy explained.

Dungy added, “I am serving the Lord so I’ll keep supporting dads and families.”

In the tweet, Dungy also posted a snippet of Obama’s quotes on the issue in 2008, during his first presidential campaign.

Musician An0maly responded to Dungy, “Good guy Tony. Don’t let the media-induced mind-controlled zombies get you down.”

Former NFL athlete Chris Manno called the tweet in a reply, “Wise words from a sage, on and off the field.”

Another Twitter user shared a list of negative stats that stem from “fatherless homes” and told Dungy, “Keep working Coach.”

As The Hill reported, Dungy, who is currently a broadcaster for NBC Sports, released a statement in support of Florida’s new law on Monday.

“This is going to be tremendous and such a good help to fathers in Florida. This bill is so important. I want to thank all of the men and women that have been behind this,” Dungy insisted.
