House Judiciary Republicans Send Letter to Merrick Garland After Whistleblowers Reveal That the FBI Has Investigated Parents Through the Counterterrorism Division and Assigned Threat Tags

The House Judiciary Republicans sent a letter to the Attorney General Merrick Garland today after whistleblowers revealed that the FBI has labeled dozens of investigations into parents with a threat tag created by the FBI’s Counterterrorism Division.

Ranking member Jim Jordan (R-OH) revealed the news on Jesse Watters’ Fox News show and then the letter was shared in a tweet.

In the letter, the committee members called out Garland for denying in testimony that the FBI or DOJ were using “counterterrorism statutes and resources to target parents at school board meetings.”

The committee members then explained that the whistleblowers revealed that they had, in fact, done that and assigned threat tags to various investigations.

Three specific examples were listed in the letter as well and the committee members called the information “startling.”

“This valuable law-enforcement time and resources could have been expended on real and pressing threats,” the committee members insisted.

The committee members urged Garland again to rescind his Oct. 4 memorandum which was spurred by the school board letter.

Ultimately, the letter called on Garland to produce and preserve documents related to the previous requests from the committee.

“In addition, we remind you that whistleblower disclosures to Congress are protected by law and that we will not tolerate any effort to retaliate against whistleblowers for their disclosures,” the letter concluded.
