House Passes Biden’s $1.9T ‘COVID Relief Bill’ In the Early Morning, 2 Dems Vote Against it

House Democrats approved President Biden’s $1.9 trillion COVID relief bill just before 2 a.m. eastern standard time, with all Republicans voting against it and 2 Democrat defections.

The American Rescue Plan Act was passed by a vote of 219 to 212 with Jared Golden (D-ME) and Kurt Schrader (D-OR), voting against the measure, which gives $1,400 stimulus checks to adults earning $75,000 or less a year.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) was one of several Republicans who decried the legislation and the decision to hold the vote in the middle of the night.

“Democrats just scheduled a vote for 2am tonight. They are so embarrassed by all the non-COVID waste in their bill that they are jamming it through in the dead of night,” he tweeted prior to the vote.

Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (R-NY), who was confirmed as the winner of her race at the beginning of the month, slammed all of the extra provisions included in the package.

“Members of Congress waited for hours today to vote on Speaker Pelosi’s spending bill. But she didn’t call for the vote until 2AM. The reason? Only 9% of the $1.9 trillion COVID relief bill is actually for COVID relief. Read my full statement here,” Tenney said in a tweet.

One of the two Democrats to vote against it, Golden, also released a statement that began, “During challenging times, the country needs its elected leaders to work together to meet the most urgent needs in their communities.”

Golden also criticized the extra spending of the bill and stated that “This bill addresses urgent needs, and then buries them under a mountain of unnecessary or untimely spending.”

Liberals on Twitter were upset that the two Democrats voted against the bill, including one, who has a particular dislike apparently for U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC).

“Let’s remember them and their vote,” said that Twitter user, who goes by “Miranda- #LindseyGrahamIsCorruptAF”
