Democratic US House rep Ilhan Omar today sent out congratulations to fellow “Squad” member Ayanna Pressley for a “big victory” in last night’s Massachusetts primary.
It was a bit of an odd tweet though, seeing as how Pressley was uncontested. Results in the City of Somerville show that she received nearly all of the 24,690 votes, except for 293 write-ins and 1,713 people who left that race blank.
Omar apparently was taking a victory lap for her own win and the fact that all of the “Squad” members will be running in the general election in heavily democratic districts.
She shared a picture of the group and added to the congratulatory tweet, “Guess the Squad isn’t so ‘vulnerable’ after all — we have the people on our side. And our progressive coalition is only growing!”
Congratulations on your big victory last night, sis @AyannaPressley!

Fellow “Squad” member US House rep AOC addressed primary challenges today, saying, “Ever notice how primary challenges from progressives are derided as “divisive” and “bad for the party,” yet folks are oddly silent about how the center/conservative wing of the party just spent millions trying to unseat me, Ilhan, Rashida, & Ed Markey? Funny how that works.”

Funny how that works.
We reported earlier that Omar and fellow “Squad” member and US House rep Rashida Tlaib was demanding an apology from MSNBC host Joy Reid for “Islamophobic” comments.
