As many are coming to grips with the reality of what is facing the country, Ilhan Omar, one of the President’s fiercest critics, took to Twitter last night to retweet a tweet from investigative journalist Lee Fang that called Trump’s actions yesterday “incredible.” She added to it, “Politics aside, this is incredible and the right response in this critical time.”

She added two response to the retweet, referencing fellow “squad” member Ayanna Pressley, “unprecedented times require unprecedented leadership and we are seeing that in our country right now. I have faith that we will survive this as a nation and build together.” Continuing with the setting politics aside theme, she finished by saying, “Finally, we should never let politics get in the way of good policy. This is a great start and hope others will be part of a united front to push for good policies that will help us work through the economic anxiety the country is feeling right now.”

Some pushed back against the tweets. One Trump critic and Twitter user, Jeff Fecke, responded by saying, “Rep. Omar…Trump is not actually doing most of this. You’re a U.S. Representative, you should know that.”

Journalist and verified twitter user David Perry was skeptical, saying, “fwiw he didn’t actually invoke the defense productive act, as I understand it, just said he would later. Let’s see these go into effect before we celebrate trump?” Another verified Twitter user John Ales went further, responding, “He deserves not a breath of praise from today until the day he has finally disintegrated to dust. He’s done a worse job protecting us than any of us could have imagined.”

As President Trump enacts more emergency measures it will be interesting to see how the Democrats and media respond as he seeks to lead the country back from the brink of this unprecedented disaster.
