U.S. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is planning on booting U.S. House Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) off of her seat on the Foreign Affairs Committee. Republican U.S. House Rep. Nancy Mace (SC) may try to block this.
Yesterday, Omar fumed. She claims that stripping members of their seats is reserved for only the most egregious wrongdoings. She went on to list atrocities that she doesn’t believe she committed in her defense to stay on her committee.
Omar said she was a refugee, which adds to the reason why she thinks she should stay in her Foreign Affairs seat. She says McCarthy’s move is a political stunt and a blow to the integrity and a “threat to our national security”.
She thanks “even some courageous Republicans” for standing with her. (Nancy Mace, Victoria Spartz) Republican U.S. Reps. Paul Gosar and Marjorie Taylor Greene (AZ), (GA) were stripped by Democrats of committee seats in the last congress though. Did Omar stand up for them using the same reasoning? Watch:
“Rep. Omar says the decision to oust her from committees is a “threat to national security” You can’t make this stuff up”

Democrats seem to expect two sets of rules. One for them and one for everyone else. We will see how much clout Mace has or if McCarthy stays strong. Many blame Joe Biden for the Democrats losing the House, despite Republicans winning by a more narrow margin than expected. Republicans will have to get wise fast if they want a good 2024 in our view.
From Fox News in part:
As for Omar, McCarthy has previously argued she should be stripped of her committee seat for her outspoken criticism of Israel, which critics say is borderline antisemitic.
