Illegal Immigrant Sentenced to Up to 15 Years in Prison After Pleading Guilty to Vehicular Manslaughter in Drunk Driving Death

An illegal immigrant has been sentenced to up to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to vehicular manslaughter in the drunk driving death of a 22-year-old Idaho man.

Cecilio Camacho-Montoya was sentenced by Judge Steven Hippler on Wednesday to up to 15 years in prison, with 7 1/2 years fixed before he becomes eligible for parole for causing the May 2021 deadly crash.

Not only that, but his driver’s license is suspended for life and the Ada County Prosecutor’s Office said he will be subject to deportation after his sentence is complete.

At the time of the deadly crash, Camacho-Montoya resided in Arizona, but was in the U.S. unlawfully and driving a semi-truck.

Camacho-Montoya was driving under the influence of alcohol in a semi-truck when he blew through a red light and collided with 22-year-old Connor Dale Holcomb’s pickup truck.

Holcomb, who later died on the day of the crash, was flung from his vehicle by the impact, and the semi split apart, then crashed into a concrete barrier.

Camacho-Montoya had blood-alcohol content levels of 0.222 and 0.214, according to field sobriety tests given at the scene, which is more than five times the legal limit of 0.04 for commercial drivers.

Ada County Prosecutor Jan Bennetts said following the sentencing, “I express my deepest condolences to Connor’s family, and I appreciate their strength during this case.”
