In Farewell Speech, Adam Kinzinger Blames ‘Standing Up For the Truth’ For Costing Him His Job, Despite IL Dems Gerrymandering His District

U.S. House Rep Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) today gave his farewell speech on the House floor after not seeking re-election.

In a tweet, digital strategist Greg Price shared a clip of his speech, where Kinzinger said “Had I known that standing up for truth would cost me my job, friendships, and even my personal security, I would, without hesitation, do it all over again.”

“I can rest easy at night knowing that I fulfilled my oath to the office. I know that many in this institution can not say the same,” Kinzinger added, taking a shot at fellow representatives on the way out.

Dinesh D’Souza mocked Kinzinger in a quote tweet of Price as he said, “Whenever a man says and does really stupid things, and ruins himself as a result of his stupidity, he always declares that he was acting out of devotion to a higher cause. Highly amusing!”

Although Kinzinger claimed that he is no longer in office because he stood up for “the truth,” it should be noted that Democrats gerrymandered his district.

As FiveThirtyEight pointed out, Kinzinger would have had to compete in a primary with fellow GOP House Rep Darin LaHood as they were both “double-bunked” in the same district after redistricting.

While Kinzinger could have chosen to run in a primary against LaHood, there was no guarantee that he would have come out ahead regardless of what choices he had made.

In another clip shared by Price, Kinzinger claimed that the GOP “used to believe in a big tent that welcomed the tired, poor, huddled masses yearning to breathe free.”

“Now, they shelter the ignorant, racist, who only stoke anger and hatred” Kinzinger insisted, while also comparing Jan. 6 to the Oklahoma City bombing.
