As the Trump campaign continues to defy all odds by not conceding the election, it appears as though some GOP Reps are still toeing the line, US Senator Roy Blunt (R-MO), House Rep and Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) are putting down their feet.
This is creating a 3-3 tie among the Inaugural Committee, which is stymying the process for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris to plan their inauguration. As we previously reported, they are planning a mostly virtual inauguration, should Biden be confirmed by all the electors.
Meanwhile, there are rumors that if President Trump’s attempts to overturn the election fail, he may plan a counter-event, rather than show up to a possible Biden inauguration.
Heather Caygle reports:
“NEW: The Inaugural Committee fails to pass simple resolution essentially acknowledging Biden as president-elect after all Republicans opposed. Hoyer offered the resolution, which failed 3-3. Other committee members are Pelosi, McConnell, McCarthy, Blunt and Klobuchar The resolution was very basic, per folks with knowledge. It would’ve notified American people that Congress is preparing for inauguration of Biden and Harris “in coordination with health experts” as “we observe this transition of power.””

While all this is going on, the GOP and Trump campaign are waiting for election disputes to play out. Texas just reportedly sued other key states for election irregularities which could end up in the Supreme Court. We are also waiting for the Supreme Court to respond to Pennsylvania after they submitted their answers to a previous lawsuit response demand.
There are many wheels in motion, and although it may appear to some as a hail-mary, it’s a wise move for the Republicans to hold off on the inauguration, considering how much Trump influences GOP voters.
The Republicans need to keep morale up for the upcoming Senate runoff race in Georgia as well. We will bring updates to the ongoing situation as we can.
Apparently Democrats are not happy about the stalled inauguration process. Ben Siegel also reported:
“.@LeaderHoyer tells reporters the congressional inaugural committee (also includes Pelosi, McConnell, Blunt, McCarthy and Klobuchar) did not approve a motion acknowledging Biden’s victory. All three Republicans voted against the measure, per Hoyer.”

All three Republicans voted against the measure, per Hoyer.
