Investigation Launched to Determine if Biden Broke the Law with Southern Border Wall Construction Freeze

It was recently reported that President Joe Biden may have illegally ordered the government to stop funds for construction on southern border wall when he signed an executive order on his first day in office.

The Government Accountability Office (GAO) is handling the investigation into the decision, at the request of Republicans in Congress.

Last week, a group of 40 Republican senators asked the GAO to step in and limit Biden’s ability to halt the construction of the wall.

More than 70 House Republicans followed yesterday in asking for an opinion from the government watchdog organization, which it typically provides whenever a member of Congress requests one.

The first to report the investigation, Politico, invoked former President Donald Trump’s name in the article prior to mentioning Biden, making sure to tell readers that he was found in violation by the group as well.

The office issued an opinion last year that the former president illegally halted Ukraine aid without Congress’s say-so, which Democrats used as a rallying cry in their impeachment proceedings.

Politico noted that even if GAO decides Biden has illegally halted funding for the wall, he is unlikely to face any formal punishment with the Democrats in control of Congress.

Republicans like U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (R-MO) and chair of the Senate Republican Policy Committee add that Biden should have known better that to sign the order after more than 30 years as a senator.

In an interview, Blunt said, “He was in the Congress a long time. He knows it’s the Congress’ job to authorize how the money is spent and the president’s job to spend it efficiently.”
