U.S. House Rep Jim Jordan (R-OH) came to the defense of former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows in a tweet today after he faces a potential contempt of Congress.
Jordan accused the Democrats of attacking Meadows “Because they don’t have anything else to talk about.”
“They don’t want to talk about the border crisis. They don’t want to talk about record inflation. They don’t want to talk about DOJ spying on parents at school board meetings,” Jordan added, listing out things Democrats don’t want to talk about.

Another tweet from the House Judiciary GOP, of which Jordan is the ranking member, declared, “Mark Meadows is a patriot. Holding him in contempt is a complete sham.”

Meadows has now issued a preemptive strike on the matter and is suing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and the Jan. 6 Select Committee.
The lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court in Washington yesterday and asks a judge to block enforcement of the two subpoenas the committee had issued for himself and his telecom provider Verizon.
The 43-page complaint calls the subpoenas “overly broad and unduly burdensome” and saying the committee “lacks lawful authority” to obtain such information.
In a statement, House Select Committee Chair Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) and Vice Chair Liz Cheney (R-WY) said that if Meadows failed to appear at yesterday’s deposition, it would have no option other than “to advance contempt proceedings and recommend that the body in which Mr. Meadows once served refer him for criminal prosecution.”
In regards to the lawsuit, the committee wrote in response, “Mr. Meadows’s flawed lawsuit won’t succeed at slowing down the Select Committee’s investigation or stopping us from getting the information we’re seeking.”
“The Select Committee will meet next week to advance a report recommending that the House cite Mr. Meadows for contempt of Congress and refer him to the Department of Justice for prosecution,” they added.
