Psaki ‘Hopeful’ That Vaccine Mandate Repeal Bill Won’t Reach Biden’s Desk and That He Will Veto if it Does

We reported yesterday that a vaccine mandate repeal bill had passed in the Senate thanks to he help fo two moderate Democrats, Jon Tester (D-MT) and Joe Manchin (D-WV).

In a press conference prior to the vote, U.S. Sen John Hoeven (R-ND) said that he believes that there will be enough Democrats to sign on to get it passed in the House.

First, however, it would have to come to the floor for a vote, which White House press secretary Jen Psaki referenced that it’s up to the “vote counters” or the “whip counters” in the House.

Psaki also said that she was “hopeful” that the bill won’t reach President Joe Biden’s desk and that he will veto if it does.

A reporter asked Psaki if she was “concerned” that there would be some House Democrats joining in to eventually force Biden to reinforce or step back from his position.

Psaki responded, “I think what’s most important is for people to know out there and to understand is the reason why the president proposed these requirements which include not just a vaccine requirement but also a testing option, testing once a week, which we feel and I think the American people feel is quite reasonable in order to keep workplaces safe, keep schools safe, keep stores safe when people are out there Christmas shopping and holiday shopping.”

“We also know that its… steps that economists support, its steps that 60% of businesses have already put into place,” Psaki explained.

Psaki added, however, that she was simply unable to make a prediction on whether or not it would come to his desk.
