U.S. House Rep Jim Jordan (R-OH) today hailed the passage of a bill in the House of Representatives that would ban a “man” like Lia Thomas from competing in female athletic programs.
The bill is titled the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act and was introduced by U.S. House Rep Greg Steube (R-FL).
Jordan noted in a tweet following the bill’s passage that “President Biden thinks it’s ok for Lia Thomas, a man, to compete against your daughter in sports.”
“Republicans just passed a bill to keep that from happening,” Jordan reported.

Republicans just passed a bill to keep that from happening.
The Hill pointed out that the legislation is unlikely to be taken up in the Democratic-controlled Senate and, as Jordan noted, Joe Biden wouldn’t support it and would veto it if it got that far.
The Biden administration argued on Monday that it believes the bill discriminates against children and that Biden would veto it if it reached his desk.
Still, it is an important symbolic victory for Republicans in the House as it is the first standalone bill to take action to protect the rights of female athletes.
The bill would amend Title IX to recognize sex as that which is “based solely on a person’s reproductive biology and genetics at birth.”
It would prohibit recipients of federal financial assistance that operate athletic activities from allowing men or boys who fit that description from participating on female sports teams, regardless of whether or not they considered themselves to be transgender girls or women.
Thomas took to social media recently to ask the Biden Administration to enact greater protections for transgender athletes.
