Country music singer John Rich spoke out recently against “wokeism” in the singer after his recent anti-woke hit song “progress.”
PragerU shared a clip of an interview with Rich in a tweet where he began by telling them, “The wave of wokeism that’s hit this country, and especially the entertainment industry, that’s made it’s way to Nashville.”
“So these artists are sitting there and they’re being told by their publicist, their managers, the heads of their record labels, ‘Hey, we know that you think these things about America, that you’re against kind of all this woke stuff that we do (they don’t call themselves woke of course) but we know you’re not really for that, but hey, don’t even think about putting out a post that pushes against that, don’t you say xyz on your microphone on your stage, no you cannot record that song because it says this,'” Rich explained.
Rich then pointed out that the artist only has two choices, which is to say what they want or their careers will be erased like his essentially has.
Despite the fact that “Progress” hit #1 on iTunes, radio refused to play the song and it is unlikely Rich will ever see any accolades beyond that.
Leftists descended on the tweet to push back against Rich’s thoughts and attempt to undermine his testimony about what is occurring.
One Twitter user asked, “Remember when conservatives tried to cancel The Dixie Chicks?”
Of course, that was after anti-American comments were made in another country while we were engaged in a war.
Another laid out a made-up scenario, which claimed, “Record label: For the last time John, you can’t record a song where you call Martin Luther King ‘uppity.’ John Rich: Wokeism! RL: And once again, we are not releasing an album dedicated to Nathan Bedford Forrest. John Rich: I have no artistic freedom anymore!!!”
Springsteen-wannabe artist Joe McClour responded, “Yep. Nothing ruins an industry like saying we’re no longer tolerating racism, sexism, and gun worship. Take it from an old white guy, John. ‘Old-white-guy-refusing-to-grow-as-a-person’ is not a good look.”
“Wokeism in the entertainment industry has made its way to Nashville.”
