The verdict in the defamation case between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard came out in favor of Depp awarding him $10.35 million. Depp was however ordered to pay Heard $2 million as the jury found Depp had also defamed Heard.
Depp believes the jury got it wrong and has filed an appeal on the $2 million awarded to Heard. The documents filed in Virginia on Wednesday claim the Jury erroneously ruled in favor of Heard.
All this is apparently because one of his attorneys, Adam Waldman, defamed Heard by telling the media, “So Amber and her friends spilled a little wine and roughed the place up, got their stories straight under the direction of a lawyer and publicist, and then placed a second call to 911.”
The appeal attempts to make the point that Depp himself didn’t use the words, it was his lawyer who said it, and that he is not responsible for what Waldman said. The documents also claim that Heard’s lawyers failed to prove Waldman made the comments with malice.
Depp came out ahead in the defamation trial, and he doesn’t want to be tied to comments he never made himself.
