Josh Hawley’s Bill Banning TikTok on Government Devices Passes Senate Unanimously

A bill proposed by U.S. Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) banning the app TikTok on government devices passed the senate unanimously tonight.

The bill is titled the “No TikTok on Government Devices Act” and no member objected to the bill, which would “prohibit certain individuals from downloading or using the app on any device issued by the United States or a government corporation.”

In a statement, Hawley said, “TikTok is a Trojan Horse for the Chinese Communist Party.”

“It’s a major security risk to the United States, and until it is forced to sever ties with China completely, it has no place on government devices,” Hawley insisted.

Hawley explained that “States across the U.S. are banning TikTok on government devices.”

“It’s time for Joe Biden and the Democrats to help do the same,” Hawley added.

In a tweet, Hawley announced, “Tonight the Senate unanimously passed my bill to BAN TikTok on all government devices.”

While the bill still needs to be passed by the House and signed by Joe Biden to become law, U.S. House Reps. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) and Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) have authored a companion bill.

U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) has taken things a step further and authored a bill that seeks to ban the app from operating within the U.S. due to national security concerns.
