Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) wrote, “Thank you for hosting the bipartisan women of the senate dinner, @VP Harris! (And for making those delicious cheese puffs). There’s a lot that we all agree on, and we must continue to build a foundation of bipartisanship as we work to get results for the American people.”

Senate women’s dinners were a tradition started by former Senators Barbara Ann Mikulski (D-MD) and Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX). Originally held in different a d Senator’s home every six weeks. The original dinners were more of a potluck-style dinner, with each Senator bringing a dish.
The dinners dwindled after Mikulski’s retirement in 2017 and seemingly stopped when four female Senators ran for president in 2020.
Harris, it seems focused on women yesterday as she also shared to Twitter her meeting with Female ‘Dreamers’ and other immigrant women on the 9th anniversary of DACA. In her tweet, she mentioned working to “pass legislation to ensure a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers, farm workers, and TPS recipients.”

Recently in a 9-0 decision, the Supreme Court denied TPS recipients who entered the country illegally the ability to obtain permanent residence (Green Card) in the United States. This ruling puts it all on Congress to legislate on these immigration matters or leave it as is.
The Biden Administration is also focused on passing an infrastructure plan which so far has not gone well. Recently the Biden Administration said they may make moves on this without any Republican support.
It may appear to some, that Harris is trying to open the door to more bipartisan discussion, to possibly move forward the many of the objectives of the Biden Administration.
