President Joe Biden is set to unveil details this week of a major infrastructure package that’s expected to include record spending and a plan to accelerate his administration’s desire for a nationwide transition to clean energy.
Up to $3 trillion in spending is expected to be included in an attempt to boost the economy, rebuild aging infrastructure like highways, bridges, and rail lines, and investing in technologies that aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from vehicles.
The bill is expected to appease Biden voters who believe that climate change is one of the biggest challenges facing the country right now.
In an appearance on Fox Business with Stu Varney, former White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany blasted the plan and said that there will be “onerous tax increases included.”
“[This is] a recipe for disaster for the economy, the fragile economy, coming out of the pandemic. We have already spent… $6 trillion in emergency relief, much of that was needed at the time, not all of it, I would argue, in the latest package,” McEnany explained.
McEnany insisted that the package that Biden is “asking for inflation” and that it is “a recipe for slowing the economy.”
Varney retorted that “the impact” could be “a little more muted” than what McEnany had just suggested because the economy is “on a rocket ship.”
McEnany replied back that she believes “more tax increases” would be like pouring “water on this raging economic fire.”
Referencing a report that Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg is weighing a vehicle miles tax (VMT) to fund the plan, McEnany added that would break Biden’s promise to not raise taxes on families making under $400,000.
